In purely figurative paintings replete with vibrant colors and textures, Italian artist Luciana Manelli captures the simple joys and beauties that are a hallmark of our world. Inspired both by the Classicists and the Impressionists, Manelli employs a variety of mediums to bring the viewer back in time to a lifestyle almost forgotten. Her images hearken back to a nostalgic past, bucolic and rich with natural beauty. With her masterful brushwork she creates a softness within her images that is effectively tempered by the lively movement of her colors and textures. Compositions are peaceful and rely on a balanced use of line and form. Through her art, Manelli hopes to send out a message of serenity to a world so often in distress. Indeed, her images are refreshingly tranquil, reminding the viewer of the serene landscapes that perhaps still do exist if we but know where to look.
Luciana Manelli is currently a professor of painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan.
My painting is purely figurative, using techniques that glorify and exalt the colors of nature in the truest sense of the word. I have always loved Impressionist paintings, and these have been an inspiration to me throughout my career. I bring all of my life experiences to bear to enrich my work, as all have helped me to grow artistically. The message of my work is one of serenity, something I feel particularly important at a time when the world is in distress. I achieve this through honesty and simplicity, and pour positivity into my works, to combat the force of dramatic events that might otherwise be negative.
