"Art is about adventure and risk,” says Lori Koprowski. Her sense of adventure has not only taken her to such locales as Australia, Fiji and Southeast Asia, but has also led her to create highly adventurous paintings which balance the physical with the abstract. The saturated colors and sweeping, bold female imagery draw us into a figurative understanding, but Koprowski brings her images into a world of complex abstract patterns and symbolism, creating a universe that is all her own. Fields of butterflies merge into patterns of simple “xoxo” symbols. A reclining woman will seem to bend back so far that she is turned into an abstract symbol.
The colors in these paintings are heavily weighted towards luminous, deep oranges and glowing blues, providing a constant visual reminder of the sun, the sea, and the women who inhabit the islands of the South Pacific. “You may not always see the female form,” Koprowski says, “however its influence and that of the everyday life in the islands got me to this composition.
