Lawrence R. Armstrong

Against a clear field of white, Lawrence R. Armstrong draws shapes in black line which are contrasted with sweeping movements in colors rendered in broad strokes and intriguing forms. What at first glance seems unplanned reveals itself to be a highly strategic and systematic arrangement, constructed with close ties to Armstrong’s observations of reality. The artist builds upon his initial creative impulses methodically, allowing his vision to develop organically within his mind over time before rapidly surging to completion. Wrought in acrylic paints on canvas or aluminum, these abstracted forms are both structural and spontaneous, drawing influences from the many physical and metaphysical layers of existence found in the natural and manmade world.
