Infinite Color: L. Byrne / a Solo Exhibition
October 7 - October 28, 2011 Reception: Thursday October 13, 2011 6-8 PM

Press Release

On striking, large scale canvases, L Byrne creates vibrant abstract impressionist oil paintings, laden with color and brimming with movement and life. In her abstract interpretations of natural elements and landscapes, Byrne pays homage to color and texture, using broad sweeping brushstrokes and blending multitudes of bold colors to create remarkable and memorable patterns and forms. Here she takes her own thoughts and passions, and translates them into an emotive response that engages the viewer, who is thereby invited to recall his or her own personal encounters with the natural world. Byrne finds much of her inspiration in the Canadian wilderness of her youth. She explains, “A passion for color and inspiration, sparked by a lifelong fascination with nature, provides a creative power that finds freedom in texture and great spaces.” For her, the brilliant color in her art is a celebration of the beauty of life and its ability to reach out to individuals with its unique energy and power.

L Byrne currently splits her time between Boston and Miami.

Artist Statement

My passion for painting emerged when I was a young girl, but in reaction to a personal tragedy I turned from figurative to abstract painting, as I no longer saw life as simply form or lines. I love to explore new techniques, and I particularly enjoy employing broad sweeping brushstrokes and blending a multitude of bold colors to create unique interest and movement. I originally began with watercolor, but turned to oil for the rich textures it allows. The environment is big source of inspiration to me - the rich color of dirt, the petal of a flower, the hues of food or textiles, moss on old bricks. I generally produce a series in which I explore the potential of a single topic in many colors and textures. I adore large canvases, where I can exploit and explore vibrant colors.
