Self-taught artist Kelly Sellers produces intimate and graceful portraits of animals. On paper or canvas, working with pastels and acrylic paint, Sellers crafts superb images of colorful, striking animals over a variety of intricate patterns and designs. Each composition is built with powerful lines and bold shapes so the works may appear graphic at first glance. Yet examination shows that each animal possesses a distinctive lifelike quality, the result of Sellers's nimble draftsmanship. Her artwork also conveys her affection for exotic and persistent pleasurable thoughts of Hawaii. Sellers has long been a devoted artist and, being raised in rural Virginia, has always had an affinity for animal portraiture. Her artistic life began with pastels, and later expanded to include paint and photography. “Art is an addiction. It gets in your blood. I find myself always contemplating or planning my next piece of artwork,” she says.
Kelly Sellers lives and works in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
