Katherine Li

Throughout the series of her Metamorphosis Collections, mixed media artist Katherine Li seeks to visually express the emotional world with a universal language. In her works, Li captures the inner soul of human experience within the movements and forms of her figures as they materialize from the rich texture of her canvases. The artist’s technique of combining acrylic paints and mixed media on canvas produces a unique, highly tactile effect, which with its golden and bronze colored finish recalls traditional Greek or Roman friezes and reliefs. As they emerge from the surface, Li’s sculptural female forms suggest mythic transformations, blending together classically inspired visual folklore with expressive and contemporary abstraction.

Born in Hong Kong, Katherine Li studied in the United Kingdom and currently lives and works in Shenzhen, China where she has founded a graphic design company. In recent years her works have appeared frequently in international and regional publications and exhibits.
