Mystical, dreamlike events unfold in the work of award-winning painter John J. Sayer. The subconscious holds an infinite appeal for Sayer’s imagination, and he channels it into each composition. John’s work transports the viewer through the looking-glass into a shadowy dreamscape that brings chills along with a glimmer of familiarity. Nature holds unyielding power and each character has an extraordinary role to fulfill. The heavens change from sky to tapestry, to figures and faces. Arid landscapes are the psychic void with which each individual must come to terms. Pools, grottos and archways imbue a sense of ceremony, while beautiful figures interact with elemental forces. Each image is sensitively rendered in soft tones contrasted by bursts of vivid color.
For forty years John J. Sayer has exhibited his unique body of work. He has attracted collectors in three continents and even Royal recognition when his painting, a gift to their Royal Highnesses, was hung in St. James Palace in London. Born in Northeast Yorkshire, England, he currently lives and works in Calgary, Alberta.
