Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography
April 22 - May 13, 2014
Reception: Thursday May 1, 2014 6-8 PM

American wildlife photographer Jim Irwin travels across the world to capture compelling images of some of the most majestic creatures on the planet. Working both in color and in black and white, Irwin creates photographs that are both elegant and emotive, with compositions as balanced and harmonic as the creatures depicted within the frame. Irwin’s expert use of light and shadow serves to further elucidate his subjects, creating at times dramatic reflections of both the animals and the natural settings they inhabit.

As a veterinarian, Irwin has been a lifelong observer of nature, and the deep understandings he has cultivated concerning the intrinsic relationship between the human and natural world reverberate through his work. As Irwin explains, “I have noticed that most human beings carry deep within them a special feeling about animals and a longing for a connection with them. . . . It is my hope that I can produce an image that can lift the spirit and provide a soothing reminder of our own deeper connection with the animal kingdom.”

Jim Irwin currently lives and works in Missouri.
