Throughout a young life filled with rich experiences, Jeco has evolved into a painter of highly unusual landscapes. His theological studies at a French monastery incorporated training in traditional fresco techniques. This expertise took on new meaning when he began a project in conjunction with an aerial photographer. Together, they worked to transcribe the dynamic contours of the natural landscape, as seen from on high, into dramatic abstract paintings. Jeco achieves subtle effects of lighting, color, and contour by altering the proportions of lime and plaster as he models an impasto surface. Interlocking fields of parallel lines direct the viewer’s eye while gentle variations of hue are created by the way light is cast upon the texturized surface. Variations of this theme have resulted in stunning artworks featuring gracefully curving semicircles, geometric mazes, and expressionist abstractions. “I am fascinated by the symbolism and the notion of beauty,” he proclaims.
Jeco’s international education in China, France, and Brazil has helped cultivate a unique visual and spiritual experience for his audience.
