Press Release
Combining dynamically bright hues with primitive and symbolic emblems, Danish artist Jeanette Marie Kjeldsen toys with the boundaries of aesthetics in an invigoratingly modern way. Her vibrant and heavily patterned paintings explode with bold color and arresting visuals. Abstract and surreal characters, faces, and forms are at the heart of all of these enigmatic works, powerfully commanding attention as they drive viewers to search for her playfully hidden meanings as she shatters perceptions of beauty. Working in acrylic on canvas, Kjeldsen brings together clear and expressive pigments in a style inspired by graffiti artists and South American art, culture, and zest for life. As she works, the artist challenges herself to explore new techniques, giving freedom to her imagination.
Born in Denmark where she still lives and exhibits, Jeanette Marie Kjeldsen works full time on her art and is a passionate world traveler. She holds an AP Degree in Design and Technology.
Artist Statement
I have been creative my whole life, exploring different mediums to express myself. I love to communicate my ideas and imagination through art. I have traveled extensively around the world and always been fascinated and inspired by other cultures’ passion for life and use of strong colors. In my own work, when I sit and allow my thoughts to flow freely, clear and expressive colors dominate, resulting in a certain sense of surreal adventure. I like my paintings to challenge viewers to think, wonder and search for deeper meaning. I paint primarily with acrylic on canvas, and like to experiment with different styles. My hope is that my audience will reach a state of joy and happiness through my work, and see the beauty in life that is not always obvious.
