Jacqueline Mitri was born and lives in Perú, although Arab blood runs equally through her veins, and her personal integration of these two very different cultures (with all their diverse costumes, beliefs, and values) is fundamental to her work. Working primarily with oils, her canvases seem to explode with rich, vibrant color, yet the effect is far from jarring. Rather, with sweeping brushstrokes that take full advantage of all the texture which oil has to offer, any motion is rendered synchronous, and her use of composition further brings balance to the colors and images, effectively grounding them.
In many of her paintings, human figures stand luminous amid splashes of color and yet are simultaneously awash in that color, generating an organic view of the human at one with the universe. In others, the colors speak for themselves, creating a sense of harmony through composition as divergent elements are seamlessly drawn together. Whatever the subject, Mitri’s paintings speak to universal themes of inclusivity, unity, and common human purpose.
