Press Release
Trained as both a painter and a classical musician, Helen Lee creates images that embrace lyrical abstraction and impressionism equally. Using nature’s richest assemblage of colors, she composes a union of textures in which flora, seascapes, and skyward vistas serve to conjure generous backgrounds that support finely detailed foreground work. Quite often in Lee’s work, soft blues and greens are touched with calligraphic brushstrokes that suggest water-bound reeds. Embracing these details of nature, as well as geometric forms, Lee invites the viewer to see not only beauty, but also universals, as her landscapes grow into dreamscapes and her abstractions into elemental forms. Lee also has achieved the rarity of venturing into vivid red and yellow while maintaining the serenity of her more verdant works. With the finesse of a classical musician, she renders her compositions into primal yet familiar meditations. Helen Lee has exhibited in Malaysia and Singapore. Her works are in private collections in Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Taiwan, Germany, England and America.
