Interpretative Realms
January 30 - February 19, 2009 Reception: Thursday February 5, 2009 6-8 PM

Press Release

Two elements get paired up again and again in the work of Hannu Uusluoto:  iteration and the natural world.  This shouldn't be surprising, as more and more often scientists point to iteration as the process by which Nature herself puts it all together.  "My artworks are artistic stories about life and universe," says Uusluoto.  "Rhythms of nature fascinate me to do art."  Originally an engineer by trade, Uusluoto puts the repetition of form front and center in every painting by choosing forms and color schemes that set the stage for his iterations to be noticed.  Thus does he investigate his subject matter not by trying to represent it with anything approaching photorealism, but by inferring something about its essential make-up by focusing on its iterative forms.  As he puts it, "Doing every painting is for me like a little research journey to the mysteries of life."

Hannu Uusluoto has recently accomplished the switch from engineer to full-time artist, and his work has been exhibited in the U.S., France, and in Finland.  He resides in Rauma.
