Fausto Arrighi’s mid-size acrylic on canvas paintings are influenced by his study of the Classics and the ornate Medieval architecture common to his region of origin. Concerned chiefly with color and form, Arrighi’s compositions feature crimson horizons, deep blue skies and scintillating grassy knolls. The artist’s figurative depiction of animals and religious iconography has a beguilingly dreamlike, illustrative quality. Being a painter, writer, songwriter, sculptor and musician, the multidisciplinary quality of his creative output feeds itself, with each form of art enriching the others. In particular his sculptural practice with found objects, which the artist terms Baroque ‘art trash,’ has a distinct relationship to his paintings. Ultimately, Arrighi’s usurpation of the symbolism of organized religion imbues the two-dimensional plane with an aura of hyperreality.
Fausto Arrighi was born in Siena, Italy. He currently lives and works in Castel del Piano, a small city near Grosseto. His work has been included in over fifty exhibitions throughout Italy and abroad.
Classical studies and living in Siena, with its magnificent buildings, incredible artwork and medieval walls, have definitely influenced my work. Beyond that, I don’t like to comment on my own work – that is the job of the critics who view it. I feel that if a sensitive and intelligent person sees my work and likes it, then I have done my job well. It is not necessary for more information to pass between us. I have had more than 50 exhibitions during my 30 years exhibiting in French galleries. I have also participated in the Valburna Prize for 17 years.
