Fabrizio Valle'

Landscapes of the Mind
May 18 - June 7, 2012 Reception: Thursday May 24, 2012 6-8 PM

Press Release

Informed by the principle concepts and imagery of both metaphysics and Surrealism, Fabrizio Valle's oil and watercolor compositions on canvas and wood strike a delicate but perfectly poised balance between studious contemplation and freewheeling imagination. Hyperreal landscapes in beige, lavender, mahogany, teal and royal blue appear tinged by the glimmer of a fantasy vision that has the force of reality. Pregnant with an amalgamation of cultural symbols and signs which the artist has appropriated for his own purposes, each work is at once perfectly picturesque and surprisingly abstract. With a creative process born purely of interior necessity, Valle' constructs a ‘metaphysical poetry’ of sorts through his compelling creations. Where esoteric and seductive images meet the known and accepted elements of the real, new ways of seeing pull the viewer deep into the work.

Fabrizio Valle' was born in the Sondrio province of Northern Italy. A self-taught artist, he has exhibited throughout Europe and currently lives and works in Amsterdam.

Artist Statement

To be creative is for me an interior necessity, a need that cannot be denied. My artwork has an imaginary element, being made up of images which exist first only in my imagination and fantasy. I work with signs and colors to achieve abstraction, because for me the abstract is what allows me to extract a part of me that contains the magical and the esoteric, so that I can create a new reality. My personal style is unique and is allied to the metaphysical. I find some of my inspiration in surrealism, but I use a number of different techniques in my works. I paint in oil and watercolors, on canvas or on wood, creating graphics and wood objects which interact with my metaphysical poetry.
