Press Release
With an expert eye for singular clarity and simplicity, Eli Matityahu creates beautifully striking photographic prints full of color and movement. Primarily capturing subjects in motion or at high speed, Matityahu can fully reveal an image in which only minimal details of the subject emerge. He particularly enjoys identifying subjects with a unique angle or an unusual exposure. This creates a dynamic impression within which the subject is utterly transformed and becomes an artwork. By digitally editing the images they become entirely subsumed into the artist’s creative vision. Printed on metallic paper, Matityahu’s images retain a vibrant intensity that lends them a seductive glamor. Taken through his editing processes, the raw photographs gain a painterly quality and a delicacy of touch that is quite unique. Each image is filled with such a vital dynamism that one is entirely absorbed, the emotions and viewpoint of the artist flowing freely and naturally, as if they were one’s own thoughts.
Eli Matityahu currently lives and works in Jerusalem, Israel.
Artist Statement
The art of photography provides me with the opportunity to evoke emotions in my audience by using my particular perspective to influence the viewer, and, therefore, make the viewer see the object through my eyes. At times, by showing only minimal details of an object, without disclosing the object itself, I can show something in a new way, making a piece of art out of it by working on its own merits. I enjoy photographing subjects with a unique angle or unusual exposure that will later serve as splendid raw material for my digital editing. This process allows me to take something and recreate all or part of it and turn it into a new work of art. This is my true passion.
