Altered States of Reality: an Exhibition of Analog and Digital Photography
April 16 - May 7, 2010 Reception: Thursday April 22, 2010 6-8 PM

Press Release

Eberhard Vogler's photography captures both the grandeur of nature and the beauty of its intimate details. His work presents a balance between a strong, comprehensive vision of the natural world and the moments of fragility within that vision. His images also juxtapose complementary shapes as they reflect or absorb the sunlight, especially when they play against a contrasting visual line. As he captures for us both the minutiae and the expansive arrangements of nature, as well as manmade architecture in varying states of growth or dissolution, Eberhard's work is fully committed to visually exploring the splendor of the world as an evolving and stunning work in progress.

Whether he is splitting his imagery between sky and landscape or getting a ground-level, close-up view of the universe, Eberhard Vogler's photography creates dramatic tableaux that have as their foundation his passion for investigating the possibilities of color, mood and a unique visual tension.

Artist Statement

I was interested in photography from a very young age, reflecting the fascination of my father and uncle. Since then I have only become more certain that this form of art is very important to me. I usually work in color, but have also experimented with black and white. I compose the image during the shooting, never modifying it on the computer afterwards. Concentrating during the composition is therefore vital for me. My motifs are those I have found traveling around Europe and especially my native Germany. I love the details and architectural structures and landscape views which I find there, and like to use light, perspective, colors, form and contrast to show them at their best. I try to capture the morbid charm of broken windows, doors and other settings. I'm also interested in people in their environment.
