Press Release
David Jeffrey Frank’s whimsical and exciting works take us on a journey of youthful innocence and exuberant imagination. With bold, bright colors, and an approach that is self-confident and sophisticated, he tackles timeless subjects of birth, love and the struggle for harmony. In a colorfully illustrative style, Frank colonizes his world with plump cherub-like figures that are joyous, thoughtful and seemingly unaware of their state of undress. They may swim in the moonlit sky, lure a mate with music or take a joy ride on a wild beast. Even the struggle between good and evil seems all in good fun in Frank’s world as angels soar and dance with the devil himself, who seems to march to the same drummer. Infused with movement and a sense of rhythm, his paintings are a wonderful and enchanting addition to the contemporary art world.
David Jeffrey Frank received his BFA and MFA from the Pratt Institute and had a long and successful career as a Creative Director. He currently lives in Montclair, New Jersey.
Artist Statement
I believe my work exhibits a highly graphic bent (in great part, no doubt, due to my experience as Creative Director). My objective has always been to merge and extend that graphic sensibility to my paintings. I am addicted to movement, color and to the simplicity of forms. I would like to believe my work exhibits a whimsical, energetic, almost child-like feel, and as simplistic as it may sound, offer a sense of "joy". I am a great admirer of Chagall, and hope that my work in some very small way emulates the energy and optimism his work exhibits.
