Brilliant, bold abstracted forms grace American artist Darci Gerhard's paintings. Exuberant in color as well as texture and shape, these works transcend commonplace categorization, being as daring in style as they are in design. Brave, bravura brushwork cascades throughout these works, as colors flow and evolve into intoxicatingly beautiful compositions. Gerhard poetically weaves texture into the fabric of her paintings, so that it draws us in and pushes us to contemplate how the work was created. Using a remarkably unique method of painting that incorporates innovative materials such as welding wire, toothpicks or an air compressor along with traditional acrylic paintings, Gerhard masterfully blends a three-dimensional element into the flat picture plane, bringing her viewers into an evocative realm of ethereal beauty. “My paintings start with a color idea that evolves into a final concept,” she says. “My use of colors and techniques are what inspire me and I strive for people to look at my work and wonder how I created it.”
Essentially self-taught, Darci Gerhard lives and works in her native Green Bay, Wisconsin.
