Press Release

For centuries, artists have sought fresh and innovative ways to best represent nature, and the work of American-born artist Daniel Sewell continues in this grand tradition.  Concerned primarily with the essential formal issues of placement, proportion and composition, Sewell’s paintings draw heavily from the theories and conceptual ideas of Analytic Cubism. Not surprisingly, the artist has collaborated with both fellow artists and scientists in his ongoing artistic pursuits.  Although perceptibly influenced by the iconic movement spearheaded by Georges Braques and Pablo Picasso, Sewell imparts his own artistic vision to create works that are timely and relevant to the current art world.  While his most literal Cubist works adhere to a grayscale pallet, he frequently utilizes a sophisticated spectrum of skillfully mixed pigments to apply thick, impasto planes of color to the canvas.  The result is a repertoire of carefully conceived, cohesive works which show his continual development as a promising American painter.

Born in New York, Daniel Sewell currently lives and works in Shanghai, China.
