In her intense and vibrantly colored paintings, Christine Drummond summons up the hustle and bustle of crowds, festivals and jamborees. Her work is suffused with a joyous quality – the compositions are densely patterned, repetitive and flowing – the colors go through a rainbow range and pop from the canvas in vivid harmony. What could be sensory overload instead works beautifully – Drummond balances her works superbly and creates for us visions of a more colorful, friendly and active world of community and companionship. Working with a palette knife her strokes are quick and deft. The crowd of figures are merely suggested by the paint, this abstracted form allowing one to project a sense of self onto the figures and so become lost in the world the paintings depict. The volume of figures often creates within itself a sort of abstraction, becoming a sea of happy colors, floating and undulating across the canvas’ surface.
Christine Drummond continues to work and exhibit widely in international galleries.
