Chantelle Gobeil

Beyond Borders: an Exhibition of Fine Art from Canada
October 7 - October 28, 2011 Reception: Thursday October 13, 2011 6-8 PM

Press Release

Flowing, organic forms, saturated in color and emotion, characterize Chantelle Gobeil’s spirited, painterly works. Life pulsates throughout these paintings, as rich textures and hues radiate centrifugally in piercing curvilinear forms and pure, natural lines. An earthen palette, enlivened with electric tones, distinguishes Gobeil’s abstract expressionistic style with a contemporary flourish. Poignantly melodic in brushwork and composition alike, these paintings are begun from life drawings, as the artist finds exquisite inspiration in the simple, subtle beauty of the human body. Evocative of not only her life’s journey, but of the universal human experience, Gobeil’s paintings speak to the poetic, beautiful happenings of everyday life. “Through my color and textured canvas I would like to touch people and allow them to feel an intimacy with the passion I am portraying,” she says. “I would like people to develop their own stories and attachment to my work.”

A Canadian native, Chantelle Gobeil has exhibited work throughout Canada and the United States.

Artist Statement

My abstract, expressionist art focuses on the passion inherent in natural form. I use life drawing studies to create the focal point, and achieve the form and feeling of a piece through the strategic use of colour and texture. These colours, used in their purest form, the texture of the layered washes, and some knife work create my abstract ‘bodyscapes’. I use music for inspiration, and my brushstrokes tend to mirror the rhythm and movement of the music. I want people to see the same beauty I do in what surrounds us each day, and take the freedom they have from the passion they feel and see that in my work. I believe my work stands out because it resonates what I feel as an artist and reflects my life and journey, in that it represents pieces of my body and mind magnified to their most basic form and exposed.
