Working in the iconic style of Pop artists Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, French-born artist Carmenly reinvents a long revered style for a contemporary audience. Bold colors, seductive lines and intriguing shapes intermingle to produce striking visions of present day celebrities and stars of a bygone era. Carmenly’s paintings are striking in their graphic simplicity, where flattened areas of electric colors play upon one another to produce works of striking dimension and intense mood: hot sensuality is conveyed with warm hues and dramatic shades. Carmenly injects a sampling of her works with a subtle sense of humor, borrowing visual cues from the iconography of advertising. Drawing inspiration from her Pop predecessors, but in a style all her own, Carmenly imparts a feminine softness and a talented eye.
Formally trained in Graphic Design, Carmenly began painting with acrylics in 2006. Having quickly honed her skills, Carmenly has exhibited her work in Monaco and France, with upcoming exhibitions in New York.
My first creative impulse started with vectorial illustration, which obeys the rules of strict precise details. While studying graphics I became bewitched by colors, I use them to approach or dissimulate my share of melancholy and femininity. Acrylic painting, my new passion, was born in 2006: My works are contemporary and figurative; with objective aesthetics and a perfect harmony of the colors. My main objective is to make each viewer who will be able to appreciate my work vibrate, just like Andy Warhol, Yves Klein, Roy Lichtenstein, Arietti or Jason Brooks knew how to influence me.
