Press Release
Carlos Diaz regards nature as raw material for his photographic explorations into balance and symmetry. He frequently sets up a visual relationship between the land and the sky. The symbiosis of nature is a primary theme for him, as its various parts come together to create beauty. When a human figure appears, it is not as an intruder or even as the main subject, but merely another element in the grandeur of nature. Whether Carlos is getting up close to his subject or taking a long view, one feels that we have been given a privileged look into nature's true symmetry.
His major influences include growing up amidst the striking countryside of Chile, and his work in travel photography has enabled him to capture the landscapes of visited countries, especially the people and culture. Whether photographing scenes of majesty or intimate glances into nature's mysteries, Carlos presents work which moves us and leaves us feeling fulfilled.
Artist Statement
My work focuses on travel photography. Travel photography means for me, to capture the landscapes of the countries I visit, and especially focusing on expressing and portraying its people and its culture. My technique is to use digital photography, both color and black and white, with a high level of post-production software. My photographic work focuses on recording the journey, the journey as a concept, with all its aspects of the unexpected and the sense that it has an impact on our lives. I want it to be there for those we are preparing for life. That is, to record the journey of our lives.
