Canadian artist Bruce Leslie Thomas brings his unique interpretation to a variety of themes, ranging from landscape to figurative and aviation subjects. Landscapes are inspired by his visually dramatic surroundings of northern Ontario and British Columbia, while his figurative images are drawn from lifelong research into our historical and social past. To stay true to his subjects, Thomas wields a variety of mediums, from oil and watercolor, to pen and ink, to Conté and gouache, to create a diversity of styles and forms. What results are careful explorations that offer the viewer new perspectives on specific moments in time and place. In the end, Thomas intends for his work “to enable the viewer to see with greater clarity and subsequently draw attention to details that are often overlooked.” Whether those details are situated in landscapes both foreign and familiar or in the unfolding themes of our social history, Thomas has much to teach us about the world we inhabit.
Bruce Leslie Thomas currently lives and works on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
