Benjamin Carpenter is an artist with questions. While exploring the nature of the human condition, as a physical as well as perceiving being, Carpenter developed symbols as a means to solidify and express such pervasive and ineffable questions. Carpenter’s working methods aid in the contemplative nature of his artform, metalworking is an extensive process rather than an immediate articulation. He applies the methods and skills acquired while pursuing a BFA in jewelry making to fully realize the potential of metal as a sculptural medium.

Carpenter’s works confront the viewer with a complex array of implications; the iconic depiction of soft, fleshy human organs in bronze develops a range of unusual associations. For him, the imagery is a catalyst for reflection rather than a definitive statement. “My finished work speaks more, to me, as symbols to mark those questions I have had rather than as trophies for answers I have found.“ Carpenter lives and works in San Francisco.
