Barbara Groot

Barbara Groot’s acrylic and pastel works on canvas are inspired by nature and capture the essence of landscape with the force of Abstract Expressionism. Her fiercely gestural application of pigment comes overlaid with subtle, meandering traces of pastel. Trees and bodies of water serve as elemental reference points in these evocative, large format paintings.

California-born Barbara Groot has shown her work in a number of exhibition spaces spanning both coasts. A graduate of UCLA with a degree in costume design, she currently lives and works in New York.
