Press Release
Aristi responds to what she experiences, taking observed moments, repositioning them on canvas, and highlighting their dynamism. Working in oil, mixed media, and sculpture all of her visual explorations represent life honestly and boldly. She sees art-making as a game in which her role is to visually describe life’s inherent drama as poignantly as possible. Aristi does not beautify or downplay the chaos that characterizes daily life. Instead, she highlights the lyricism that often comes of turbulence. Expressive, painterly gestures and textured surfaces coexist with finely rendered figures and cityscapes. Even when she depicts urbanity, the movement in her work resonates with nature. She reminds viewers that, no matter how refined we become, we are still governed by organic rhythms.
Aristi studied Economics at Pierce College in Athens, Greece, and later graduated from the School of Fine Art at University of Bolton in the U.K. She currently lives and works in Athens.
Artist Statement
My intention is to show that art should only present, not suggest or correct. Nature constructs reality with harmony or not and artists represent it. Today’s artists do not present conciliated and convenient works and my art fits into today’s contemporary processes where everything converts to art if presented with vision and power. My early work was influenced by classic perceptions; today, when I produce an elegant form, I trace extracts from my culture of origin. Life itself is a dramatic event and shapes art. My works communicate my way of grasping important things.
