Amparo de Florez

Classically truthful, yet poignantly poetical, Spanish artist Amparo de Florez teases honest beauty from the reaches of her vast knowledge of the world and pours the result into her paintings. The artist grew up surrounded by the riches of the Spanish countryside, and vividly remembers running and playing in its opulent wilderness, with smooth stones and lush soil under her bare feet. These early experiences contribute to the vivacious, saturated palette with which de Florez tenderly paints with stoic flourish, imbuing her canvases with a palpable, energetic tranquility. Inspired by her childhood, de Florez travels throughout Africa in order to discover and depict the natural wonders of the world, encouraged by a sense of adventure which communicates itself to her palette knife. “My paintings are based on expressing what I like about my experiences and travel through the brushes and oil on canvas or panel, giving importance to the light and color in order to show that the nature of every corner of the world is a mystery,” she explains.

Amparo de Florez lives and works in Madrid, and has exhibited her work internationally.
