Press Release
For Alejandrina Arreola Calderoni, art is the unique and most genuine language of expression, and these artistic expressions are grounded in freedom. Her use of paint and other materials certainly reflects this – swift, loose brushstrokes drag luminous color across her canvases, their delicately textured surfaces creating a light effect reminiscent of dappled sunlight. Free forms are juxtaposed with geometric planes. These geometric forms are the backbone to the composition of Calderoni’s works. In works where they are absent, her brushstrokes rise up to create dramatic forms that play with luscious colors and unorthodox horizon lines. These paintings pulsate with energy, and in many of them there is a chiaroscuro effect, where light bursts through from beyond the depths. Calderoni’s pigment choices are located firmly in the earth tones. For her there is an honesty and an integrity in using colours that are in tune with nature. These create a harmonious beauty rivalled only by the natural world itself.
Alejandrina Arreola Calderoni was born in Mexico and exhibits widely.
Artist Statement
I believe that art is a completely different language that is based on freedom. A freedom statement, a constant evolution, a bridge between reality and imagination. Art is an expression and an awareness of harmony between light, color, shadow and contrast that create a communication of feelings and beauty of nature. Painting is an opportunity to listen to different stories we have spiritually and mentally, to experience a combination of senses with textures and colors, to pursue emotions that can be so diverse and place them in a canvas.
