Abby Rieser

The Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition
August 24 - September 12, 2012 Reception: Thursday August 30, 2012 6-8 PM

Press Release

Abby Rieser fashions sculptural assemblages from the industrial detritus she scavenges while employed as a “gatekeeper” at a landfill, the rejected items becoming compelling, carefully determined pieces. Influenced by Joseph Cornell and her mentor Varujan Boghosian, her works incorporate a myriad of textures and materials hard, soft and porous. Worn surfaces, supple edges and disintegrating scrap metal comprise the works’ moving and delicate symmetry.

Abby Rieser was born in Hanover, New Hampshire. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design and now works in her studio, which is built from recycled building materials.
