At the end of 2009, Agora Gallery opened its doors to a new exhibition space, adjacent to the main collective exhibition gallery, at 530 West 25th Street in the center of the Chelsea art district in New York City. This beautifully designed and spacious new gallery avails us the opportunity to showcase artists and their work in a significant solo exhibition environment.

Our April exhibition featured BRICK by BRICK: The LEGO® Brick Sculpture of Nathan Sawaya. The presentation marks the first solo exhibition by the artist in New York City. Nathan’s remarkable sculpture, constructed entirely out of Lego bricks, can be found in public, corporate as well as numerous private collections. His most recent museum show, The Art of the Brick at the Everhart Museum in Scranton, PA ran from February – May of this year. Please visit www.brickartist.com for a complete listing of his upcoming museum shows.

The BRICK by BRICK exhibition at Agora Gallery has been a phenomenal success, attracting both national and international media attention. Nathan has been featured on “The Today Show”, “Late Night with David Letterman”, and the “The Colbert Report”, as well as in print and online media worldwide.

The artist who developed his skills in drawing, painting and sculpting, as a child and throughout his early adulthood, rediscovered Lego brinks approximately ten years ago when he was searching for a new medium and vision for his creative expression. The astonishing thing about Lego bricks, in the hands of a Legomaster, is that working with Legos not only fires up the imagination of the artist but also the minds of the viewers who imagine for themselves the possibilities that exist in “what is possible” in all things. Sawaya is able to transform something common into the some of the most extraordinary work imaginable. The artist not only captures action, movement and curvatures of the body with ordinary Lego bricks, but most remarkably, he is able to transform these small plastic squares and rectangles into something that is much more poignant and engaging, he is able to express human emotion, such as; sorrow, joy, humor, compassion and much more. This, in my opinion, is the genius of his work
