Nader Abedini

Nader AbediniNader Abedini

Born in Tehran, Iran over 40 years ago, Nader Abedini still considers it home.  Its influence is apparent in his work, which includes sculpture and calligraphy in addition to paintings. The canvas creations of Mr. Abedini employ acrylics with oil pastels, and can be quite large.  The effects of mixed media and size are dramatic, especially in conjunction with his striking technique. Backgrounds are deeply colored with restrained palettes, while the centers of attention glow with luminescence.  That glow is constant, even when the models don’t reflect glamour and may be too absorbed to even smile.

Nader Abedini’s paintings focus on individuals at quiet moments; movement is in slow musical notes and physical activity is limited to the sedentary.  In his world, time slows for the pursuit of individual fulfillment.  Does Mr. Abedini wish to reflect internal calmness, or simply peace within four walls?  Are the women in his paintings satisfied and fulfilled with their endeavors?  Only Nader Abedini knows for sure, and as he says, “Figurative is my life.”

Cynthia Hudson

When do layers and textures of paint evoke feelings of movement?  What allows viewers to sense sound vibrations from a painting?  How can bold strokes of vibrant color open a dimension beyond the visual?

In the hands of Cynthia Hudson, these exceptional feats are her standard signature.  She has the ability to touch an audience on many levels by conveying a unique whimsy and energy. Growing up with an artisan father and dancer mother, Ms. Hudson blends the two cultures and produces artwork choreographed with mood, rhythm, and liveliness. Cynthia Hudson’s early oil portraits established a base of realistic discipline from which her present technique evolved. By allowing her innate connection to dance and movement to influence this structure, Ms. Hudson achieves a mesmerizing style. She has enjoyed numerous commissions for corporations, exhibitions, and collectors, and her work has appeared on the television show “Dharma and Greg”. Cynthia Hudson lives and works in Kansas City

Dr. Rich Ragle

Dr. Rich RagleDr. Rich Ragle

It’s said that in the face of death, life becomes even more precious.  No one knows that better than Dr. Richard Ragle, a board certified osteopathic family practice physician. Delivering babies and assisting in the dying process has provided him with insight and perspectives which are skillfully expressed in masterpiece sculptures. Dr. Ragle’s medical training provides the basis for the exquisite anatomy of his work.  Working in bronze, gold, silver, wood and gemstones, he uses his own spiritual recovery over personal struggles to direct his art.

A Native American once believed his soul to be blessed after viewing Dr. Ragle’s “Logan” sculpture.  After deep inhalation and exhalation while touching it, the gentleman explained that he was breathing its energy in, and extending a blessing to it. This was to make it part of himself, and him to it.  Obviously, Dr. Ragle succeeds in reaching his goal of opening peoples’ hearts to their own spiritual truths!
Born in Denver, Dr.Ragle currently lives in the mountains between Santa Fe and Albuquerque.

Anya Rubin

Anya RubinAnya Rubin

The female form figures prominently in Anya Rubin’s paintings. As portals to existence, women embody Rubin’s fascination with the paradox of the cosmos encompassed in each human being, as well as the connections between the individual and the universe. She portrays women not solely as symbols, but also the way they are in the contemporary world: smart, strong and sexy. Her interest in the feminine manifests itself in curvilinear lines. A recurring, mosaic-style composition within the boundaries of organic forms conveys the complexity hidden in each of us. These fragmented, multi-hued, yet paradoxically holistic beings are often suspended in dark space, portraying a poignantly existential view of our place in the universe. The painter at times dives into color, achieving oceanic blues reminiscent of Marc Chagall and audaciously expressing passion and intensity via blazing reds. The New Jersey resident was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and has lived in Vienna, Germany and Israel. She studied at the Art Student League of New York, and privately with working professional artists.

Degrees of Abstraction

Artists display contrasting perspectives, inspired illusions and immeasurable talent in Degrees of Abstraction. This exhibition is a poignant portrayal of visual dissonance and harmony transmitted through complex composition and transcendent design. Come celebrate the triumph of artists from the U.S. and abroad in their ambitious quest to capture the human spirit and the complexities of existence on canvas

Vanessa Bistrain

Vanessa BistrainVanessa Bistrain

When asked to recall her most profound childhood memories, Vanessa Bistrain reminisces about weekends spent with her father and sisters painting with watercolors. She would later go on to study graphic design, photography, painting, illustration, engraving, sculpture and textile design at several universities throughout Latin America and the United States.

The daughter of a Brazilian mother and Mexican father, Vanessa Bistrain draws heavily on the influence of the two cultures in her work. The contrasts between the two are often noted in the artist’s usage of warm and cold colors; and the results are striking. Mastery of various techniques using acrylic and sand mixed with warm colors give added texture and brightness to her work. And the passion associated with Latin American cultures is apparent in Bistrain’s urgent desire to incite the soul and transmit feelings of absence, presence, sadness and happiness through her paintings. Bistrain currently resides in Mexico.

Ashley Bullard

Ashley BullardAshley Bullard

Ashley Bullard is an emerging artist  whose intriguing works are beginning to attract attention from the greater art world. Using the medium of oil on linen, she makes use of challenging colors, texture and a strong sense of shape to create images that impart a sense of interrupted chaos. The splashes seem wild, but are tamed by the use of clearly defined geometric shapes, and subtle nuance takes each piece one step beyond the obvious.

A native of New Hampshire, Ashley attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1999. She has exhibited locally, both as a solo artist, and in larger exhibitions. Ashley maintains a solid silence about her works. Instead of speaking about them, she lets her art speak for itself, and allows each individual to find the meaning and spirit within.
Burning ascents, burning descents, these are the works of Ashley Bullard. It is up to you to enter the flames, and embrace the mystery.

Adrian Lascom

“When painting, there are no unintentional marks, only conscious and unconscious.  I attempt to bypass the conscious mind, the cerebral censor, and gain access to hidden thoughts and images created by the unconscious.”  This statement by Adrian Lascom speaks volumes about his work.  He dramatically daubs his canvases with oils and acrylics, overlaying dark, even aphotic layers with bursts of washed-out color that often seem to drag purposefully downward, almost clawing at the canvas as they fall.  His painting style displays a feral physicality, a seething of a subconsciousness made corporeal.  He draws upon his dreams and the effects of family trauma to actualize his own catharsis.  “I continue to develop and hone an individual style and technique to create a body of work that is a true personal expression,” he declares, “work that can represent Adrian Lascom.”

Lascom is a graduate of London’s Royal College of Art.  In his 15-year career he has both been featured in numerous solo exhibitions and created numerous award-winning commercial projects.

Dale Oftedal

Dale OftedalDale Oftedal

While appropriating icons of consumer culture in art hardly registers a shockwave since Warhol's soup cans, Dale Oftedal's current series, in which he juxtaposes these familiar images into collages which are witty, visually striking and challenging, wisely focuses less on social critique (although that is present in them) and more on offering an object lesson in the archetypal shapes inherent in selling us cereal, heroes or spirituality. His use of the sphere and parallel lines in multifarious ways--flags, patterns, bull's eyes, planets, faces--presents a portrait of our culture beyond mere ironic commentary.

Dale unearths the shapes by which we make sense of visual stimuli, and the means by which advertising exploits our visual vocabulary. The sphere, the flag and the starburst--the world, the nation and heaven. These are the promises of commercial culture, and Dale Oftedal has found rich source material in his investigation of our world. He reflects our consumer culture back to us, and invites us to open our eyes.

Labyrinth of Abstraction

Viewers need only their imagination as a map to maneuver amongst the work presented in Labyrinth of Abstraction. While some images will be easy to navigate, others present a more cunning challenge. However all offer distinct paths to the artists’ carefully constructed messages. This rewarding challenge in visual meandering leads viewers through a maze of meditation, debate and deep examination.

Michael Berger

Michael BergerMichael Berger

Past field work in geology and geochemistry cultivated my appreciation for the vivid colors of stones, like red sandstone or dark blue vulcanite, and were crucial to my artistic development because they inspired my first investigations into color and mood. My geological background has flowed into my current work, with the intense colors I came across there finding new expression in the magnetic planetary bodies, stars and constellations which make up the universe I have created through my art. I developed the term 'Transformable ART' to describe my new technique, because a key feature of it is the combination of painting and sculpture to produce pieces of art which are not static, but may change their appearance by manual interaction. Thus the work exists in a constant state of creation, ever changing in its dimensions and arrangements, a reflection of the universe itself.

Eric ERC

Eric ERCEric ERC

What happens when you break the rules? When you realize that there is more to life than the order that is imposed on it? ERC's works seek to answer this question with pieces containing curiosities that drive the viewer to linger over each piece, and to capture a glimpse of themselves within these strange mirrors.

Born in Ganges, France, ERC trained in and practiced the art of the Law, however he could not ignore the call of his creative side. Today, working with mixed media on wood, ERC captures reflections of life on one of man's most essential mediums not just of expression, but of life itself. He has exhibited widely across the globe. From France, to the UK, to the USA, his works have been appreciated by audiences and received many accolades.  ERC requires the viewer to find himself in the work, and each piece contains treasures that can be found with open eyes, and an open heart.

Bert Munoz

Bert Munoz's kaleidoscopic paintings conjure futuristic and visionary worlds with witty composition and vivid arrangements of shape and color. With a passion for large-scale works that skirt the edge between the abstract and the representational, Bert subjects naturalistic, identifiable shapes to his tweaking of perspective and dimension. Skyscrapers slant and mutate into geometric forms. A human figure melds with a background of foliage and gravity-defying, multihued organic bubbles that float amidst ribbons of liquid color. Human eyes peer out at us as if from a surreal forest.

These worlds are alien, to be sure, yet the warm colors, soft spherical shapes, and backgrounds of dark blue night sky or deep ocean invite investigation and exploration. Bert Munoz wants the viewer of his art to be taken to another world, even if temporarily. He certainly accomplishes this, and he does it by speaking to that part of us which can imagine these other worlds along with him. He takes us on a journey and we find we are right at home.

Lamont Simpson

Lamont SimpsonLamont Simpson

With a painterly dexterity Lamont Simpson creates striking abstract paintings of interwoven lines and overlapping shapes. The colorful, gestural forms flow across and down the canvas, creating a stunning layered effect. Each work is imbued with an emotional subtext that can readily be felt by Simpson’s audience, meanwhile evoking the human circulatory system, flowing waters, forest canopies, and other natural phenomena. “The colors, shapes and lines that I use,” Simpson explains, “are meant to represent an intense emotion that comes from within a person at a particular point in their life.”

Simpson’s paintings have the ability to articulate without overt representation, allowing for intimate readings and dialogues between the work and the viewer. An up and coming artist from Queens, Simpson’s artistic progression has been a journey of struggle and triumph in developing a personal and unique artistic voice. He lives and works in New York.
