Press Release

Stephen Looney’s series of abstractions exploring the Seven Deadly Sins presents a vivid and powerful depiction of human flaws. Each composition is a symmetric reflection, with each illustration highlighting two colors. Looney draws from sinister depictions of familiar forms to developed creative and effective ways of both simulating different textures and achieving depth using the digital medium. “Gluttony” is especially remarkable at portraying a variety of textural complexity. The dramatic use of color daringly unifies the visual space and conveys a vitality of conceptual expression. In “Lust,” Looney creates depth through transparent layers and a receding catwalk in the center of the composition. The vanishing point at the end of this runway is a woman’s figure, clearly modeled after wheel-guard designs. This emblematic visual familiarity sits amidst the cave-like border that tunnels the viewer forward. Stephen Looney currently lives and works in East Patchogue, New York.
