Saori Louise Tatebe

Saori Louise TatebeSaori Louise Tatebe

Grappling with the theme of existence, Saori Louise Tatebe’s creative process is best compared to the act of giving birth. By manipulating the contrasting textures of her three dimensional mediums, from ceramic, to steel, to cloth, Tatebe slowly gives life to her pieces by combining seemingly disparate elements. In a reaction to the frenetic pace of contemporary lifestyle, rife with informational overload, Tatebe’s quiet, almost meditative works provide a welcome respite for contemplation. Tatebe works with a restrained color palette, borrowing her organic, earthen hues from nature. This unique juxtaposition of the man-made against the natural, expressed both in subject matter and in composition, provides an endlessly fascinating and thought-provoking viewing experience.

Born in England, Japanese artist Saori Louise Tatebe first discovered the amazing expressive properties of art as a student in California.  Now living in Kamakura, Japan, she continues to transcend the conceptually constructed borders of nationality and country through her increasingly sophisticated body of work.
