Self-taught artist Richard Harman creates incredible imagery though his recent investigations of digital photography. His unique artwork ranges from figurative subjects to abstract works reminiscent of microscopic realms. It is in the images from the latter category that Harman’s achievements find full fruition. These abstractions, dramatic in both composition and color scheme, are intense to discover; the viewer is presented with a visual puzzle similar to that of a Rorschach test, and one that is no less indeterminate. In his work, Harman is attentively open to the random nature of imperfections. “In my world of artistic exploration,” he states, “the ‘mistakes’ that I have naturally made along the way have now become my ‘discoveries.’” Harman’s photographic work has recently been featured in national publications including Instinct Magazine and The Advocate. After spending 11 years working in the visual and performing arts in New York, Harman recently returned to his native Nashville.
