Michelangelo Mandich

Michelangelo MandichMichelangelo Mandich

In many of Michelangelo Mandich's works there is often a single focus of attention shimmering amidst the undersea blues and greens that permeate his dreamlike landscapes, one lone individual or a scrap of color which is often little more than a vivid glow asserting its bright presence in these haunting tableaus. This expression of the artist's deepest concerns is strengthened by the surrealism of his works, a combination which augments Mandich's aesthetic preoccupations with the meaning of human experience within history and cultural memory. Michelangelo draws on myths and iconic symbolism for his work, a foundation which strengthens the pathos embedded in these works. One feels both a quiet urgency in the paintings as well as a sense of harkening back to time-honored forms of visual language. Existential anxiety and a sublime desire for transcendence coexist on his canvases like contradictory forces in a storm.

Michelangelo Mandich fearlessly taps into his own deepest sensations and ideas, and he invites us to join him.
