Jerome Scullino

Beyond Borders: an Exhibition of Fine Art from Canada
October 9 - October 30, 2012 Reception: Thursday October 11, 2012 6-8 PM

Press Release

Focusing on the human interactions he witnesses through his lens, Jérôme Scullino creates images whose narratives are inherently poignant, even breathtaking. Visually, his compositions are complex; so, too are the weaves of social connections, lost worlds, and bittersweet relationships that he portrays in his powerful photographs. The connections between people, the lifestyles and objects that encompass them are the source of Scullino's artistic success. "I am moved by the underlying emotional connection people have with themselves and the world, and the world with them," states the artist.  He manifests his fascination with simplicity using multifaceted arrangements which are believably natural yet inspire caution through their perfection.

Having pursued photography since a young age in the South of France, Scullino currently works as a professional artist/photographer in Canada. His connections to places as remote as England, the Dominican Republic, Japan, Nepal, France and New York, amongst others, grant him the eye of a globetrotting outsider who succeeds in touching the emotion and sincerity that makes up the fabric of human existence.

Artist Statement

Beyond aesthetically pleasing images, artistic and spiritual empowerment are a large part of the experience I strive to create. Each time you meet someone there is an opportunity to do something extraordinary, and that's what motivates me because through my work I can reach so many people. I also run community based workshops, to help others find their own expression through photography. I believe that art is part of our lives, not a luxury but something we need. Blessed with an eclectic, quilted set of life experiences, and always open to new inspiration, these mold, shape and guide my artistic endeavors to this day. Photography is about the vision, not the image, for me, and it stirs a passion in me that knows no boundaries save for the recognition of the extraordinary in all of life’s moments, and the creation of beautiful images that are, if not optimistic, humanly positive.
