Guglielmi Giovanni

The Odyssey Within: an Exhibition of Fine Art by Greek and Italian Artists
December 23 - January 12, 2012 Reception: Thursday December 29, 2011 6-8 PM

Press Release

Guglielmi Giovanni’s contemporary figurative style bears a distinctly impressionist sensibility and magical realist flair that is instantly attractive. His modestly sized paintings feature an Italian landscape adorned by the subtle charm of memory and the perfection of the pictorial. Sun soaked hills and valleys scooped out with rainbow pigments shine amidst small floral compositions and tasteful still lifes. Allowing himself to work with an excitingly fluctuating palette, Giovanni expertly accentuates the visual dynamism in pure stasis. His engaging oil on canvas works capture the ‘poetry’ of his environment with a beguiling joie de vivre. Adopting the ethos that art is an ‘agent’ and a ‘guardian’ of history, Giovanni’s engaging creations absorb the attention of viewers with their lush, inviting scenes.

Guglielmi Giovanni was born in Pietragalla, Italy and currently lives and works in Monteriggioni. In addition to his personal painting practice, in the past he has served as a creative instructor to elementary school children with special needs.

Artist Statement

I paint to express my emotions, and for the feeling of joy that comes from observing what has been created. The artwork of mankind is the agent and guardian of its history, the poetry of the environment. I paint in a spontaneous and personal way which I think of as modern-figurative impressionistic painting. To me, color is the light and the essence of life. I communicate my feelings, and the taste of the beauty and the joy of life, with pictorial images full of poetry. I hope to be understood and appreciated by my audience, but the essential thing is that painting makes me feel more free and creative.
