Ermeti Martina’s ornate portraiture presents the viewer with impressionistic renderings of the female form. Done in acrylic on wood, Martina’s larger-than-life subjects wear bold personas – that of pin up, muse, geisha, glamour girl or shadowy seductress. Mischievous and dramatic, each portrait offers a superb portrayal of the intricacy of posture and subtle flow of sensuality manifest in the female form as virtuous landscape. Equal parts high fashion spread and dreamscape, the figures demonstrate in vivid color the expressive and diverse modes of female bodily intellect. Tilting curves, pursed lips and impetuous eyes pop out against hot red backgrounds alternatively atmospheric and opaque. Ermeti Martina was born in Rimini, Italy. Schooled in painting and design, she considers her travels in Spain as having an important influence on her work.
