The works of self-taught painter Truong Ngoc Chinh present idyllic scenes of innocence and vehement faith. A deeply held devotion permeates his work, as do exclamations of hope through vivid and moving examples, some of which appear to be mythic. At their heart, these works bear a true love of humanity and our possibilities for receiving grace. The jarring turmoil of the world also rubs elbows with this faith and the hope in a better world to come but, through it all, an intense dignity shines in these richly textured works, which have a narrative aspect to them, whether their subject matter is catastrophic or celebratory.
Truong Ngoc Chinh was born in Vietnam, and he now lives and paints, as well as composes music, in California. He cites Van Gogh, Leonardo Da Vinci, Monet and Picasso as influences. His paintings have appeared in the Asian Pacific Museum in Poland, the Living History Museum in France, and in many international embassies.
