Sung HongSung Hong

Sung Hong's mixed media pieces experiment with the concept of Automation to produce dreamlike works of total abstraction.  Creating from the realm of the unconscious, Hong's highly theoretical works reject the constraints of traditional representational art and instead deal exclusively with non objective imagery, focusing on texture, color and line.  The airy depth of each canvas recalls Sung Hong's mental and artistic process.  The eye delves into the mysterious space of the canvas, as the artist has allowed her unconscious mind to guide the construction.  By working in a muted color palette on a richly textured surface, her canvases portray a powerful, but inherently quiet and introspective presence.  Her artwork calls to the viewer, beckoning them forward with their textural complexity and hold the attention with a tenuous and intriguing balance.

Sung Hong is a graduate of the prestigious Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington DC.  Her work has been exhibited internationally in Washington DC, New York, Maryland, and Korea. She teaches abstract art at Chesapeake College, MD.
