Sanjeev Misra

The art of Sanjeev Misra seeks to represent the expressive aura of human awareness that lies beyond simple facial posturing. His images are painted as organic shapes of flat, bold color over a dark gray background and resemble the appearance of a topographic map; confident with a variety of materials and techniques, Misra uses pastel, acrylic, charcoal, oil, and mixed media to capture the map of human facial expression. As Misra says: “I do not indulge in letting the brush wander on the canvas to capture my own subconscious state, rather, I plan and compose to capture the subconscious of others.” Born in Orissa, India, Misra is a self taught artist and has spent last 14 years in the United States, where he received a masters’ degree in economics. Misra lives and works in New Jersey.
