Award-winning artist Sachie Koyama crafts beautiful artworks that convey an appreciation for imagination and wonder. Like a strong breeze articulated by fallen leaves swept up in the current, Koyama’s images are composed of small multihued lines or dots flurrying around the picture, compelled by some unseen force. Her artistic approach is neither abstract expressionist nor impressionist, but more akin to a visual symphony – intuitive and visceral. Using pencil, watercolor, or oils, her works are radiant and airy, employing a palette that favors pastels of canary, magenta, and azure with slight modulations of tone. Evoking natural phenomena like stars, water, and wind, the viewer is placed within the scene rather than a detached observer. Koyama does not intend to render our natural world, but rather provide a visionary experience within it. “Once I got into that world from a blank canvas,” she explains, “I just tried to follow my intuition and…I continued painting to get the vision which no one has ever seen.”
Sachie Koyama lives and works in Japan.
