Ren Seffer creates gorgeous, multi-layered works filled with luscious colors and dream-like textures and imagery. Starting with strokes of black, she builds her paintings up through to bright color, letting them form as they will, producing a wonderful freedom in her brushstrokes and a spontaneity in the forms that inhabit the canvases. Seffer’s paintings have a dreamlike, almost spiritual quality. She takes the objects she sees around her and imbues them with her own passion. The figures and animals conjured up are smooth, and melt into patterns or other objects, moving through the composition effortlessly. Her brushstrokes, too, although distinct and vigorous, then blend into each other creating a plane of textured color like dappled light. The intensity and harmonious quality of the color is what gives these paintings their really joyous feeling.
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Ren Seffer currently lives in Grand Cayman, British West Indies and is a full-time artist and self-confessed gypsy.
