Pat Hay’s sensitively rendered paintings reveal the distinct meditative abilities of art. Color fields radiate and shimmer as soft layers of acrylic or oil interact with one another and dramatic hues draw us out of our everyday self. Some works invigorate our spirit with radiating warmth of fiery reds and yellows while other paintings soothe our souls with the cool green and blue hues of an evening forest. Though her works may draw comparisons with Mark Rothko, Hay’s style is highly original in its conception; translucent layers of paint give way to solid forms recalling early childhood years when one first learns to ascribe meaning to shapes and figures.
Through painting, Hay is determined to convey a mind-state without overt storytelling, so her audience may contemplate for themselves. Painting “is a search to try and reveal thoughts, emotions and truths that cannot be conveyed in words,” she explains. Her works have been exhibited throughout the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada and the United States. Originally born in Canada, Hay currently resides in Scotland.
