With a lifelong passion for works on paper, Singapore-born artist, Mon Lun Choo, experiments with mixed mediums and various methods of printmaking to create not just a social commentary, but a stimulating visual conversation with the viewer. By utilizing bright colors, a keen sense of humor and appealing decorative elements, Choo breaks down barriers between the viewer and the work, inviting them to interpret her contemporary subjects. Despite the seemingly lighthearted appearance of her works on paper, the message is decidedly serious. Choo is profoundly inspired by everyday life, from the urban landscape in which she lives to the societal issues she and her peers face on a daily basis. Her works seek not only to express the world as she sees it, but to encourage others to begin a discourse on society’s pressing issues.
Widely exhibited throughout Singapore, Choo recently participated in ARTSingapore 2008. Additionally, the artist is the inaugural recipient of the Victoria and Albert Museum’s International Printmaking Residency in London.
