A quiet understanding of natural beauty guides Meggie Zhang’s paintings. Zhang, who grew up in Northern China, combines western oil painting with impressionistic Chinese brush painting techniques. Giving equal attention to contrast and depth, she imbues fleeting natural moments with a wide-open timelessness. She sees meaning as something we must create for the world, and her textured, subdued paintings suggest that meaning comes from observing and feeling the life around us.
Zhang, who has considerable knowledge of science and philosophy, began painting in 2001. She currently works in Boston, Massachusetts.
