Jules Gotay

Jules GotayJules Gotay
Jules Gotay’s cartoon-like images and indiscriminate mix of topics emulate his interpretation of poetry explained through the visual. Color is not restricted to the boundaries of the image; it coexists on the canvas as floating color or a separate entity. The appeal of Gotay’s color brings reminiscent feelings of childhood, as if the canvas were a black tablet with some kind of rainbow reveal. The abstract placement of the images on the canvas is commenting on Gotay’s poetic voice. The canvas truly displays the ideas he has in his own expression and his interest in modern and contemporary poetry. He paints every thought down with no hesitation for rhyme or reason and adds a little humor. What he creates on a canvas is similar to a poet poring thoughts onto a piece of paper. He delves into the relationship between language and perception. Interpretation is for the individual and the individual alone.
