Elana Kochman combines traditional and experimental techniques in her art, visually exploring the gamut of social conditions and human qualities. Through Kochman’s non-traditional methods she constantly reinvents herself, where one piece will focus on undulating line work, another will be an intimate portrait featuring lush strokes of color. Though employing such disparate methods as hand embroidery or painting on rusted metal, the spirit behind the art remains the same. “My work celebrates life, family, and culture,” she explains, “in addition to being a commentary on the differences that exist relative to one young woman's life.” Kochman holds a BA in Psychology from Mcmaster University and a BFA from Concordia University in Montreal. She has been very active in the art scene of Ontario and Quebec, in addition to volunteering her time for fundraising events and Arts for Children. Kochman lives and works in Toronto.
